The federal government is supposed to have the back of Americans traveling abroad.
But when their politics don’t align with the Left, they’re on their own.
And now Joe Biden is once again leaving Americans to face one scary nightmare of traveling overseas.
A small British-controlled Caribbean island is a nightmare for Americans
31-year-old Virginia resident Tyler Wenrich only intended to spend a couple of hours in the Turks and Caicos – a British territory in the Caribbean.
He was on a cruise for a friend’s bachelor party when the ship docked on the island of Grand Turk.
When he was trying to return to the cruise ship, he was arrested by the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force when they found two bullets from a hunting rifle in his backpack when he went through a security checkpoint.
Because of a new law in the territory, he could be facing at least 12 years in jail.
Turks and Caicos passed a law last year requiring that anyone who’s caught bringing a firearm or ammunition to the island receive a minimum 12-year jail sentence.
In the past, Americans could get away with paying small fines.
Wenrich’s wife, Jeriann, said that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) missed the ammunition when he went to the airport.
“Our airport didn’t catch it, and the cruise ship didn’t catch it,” Wenrich told NBC News. “He does have a conceal and carry license, and the particular bag he took on the trip contained all of his emergency equipment.”
Tyler Wenrich is an EMT and a longtime member of the Powhatan Volunteer Rescue Squad.
His wife was worried that their young son would grow up without a father.
“If we can’t get this changed, It ruins our lives. It ruins my son’s life because he will grow up without a dad,” Wenrich said.
He became the third American arrested this month for accidentally bringing ammunition to the Turks and Caicos.
Oklahoma residents Ryan and Valerie Watson were arrested at an airport in Turks and Caicos after he accidentally brought a small amount of ammunition – that the TSA missed – from a hunting trip that was left in his bag.
Valerie was released, but Ryan is still detained while he awaits a June court date.
Joe Biden does nothing for Americans arrested for petty offenses in Turks and Caicos
The U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas simply put out a warning that they wouldn’t be able to help Americans arrested in Turks and Caicos after the Watsons were arrested.
President Joe Biden’s administration is willing to go to the mattresses to try and get journalists and woke WNBA player Brittney Griner freed from foreign detention.
But American gun owners are being thrown to the wolves.
The British government – a reliable American ally – is responsible for the foreign relations of the Turks and Caicos – which has a population of less than 50,000 people.
Leveraging the tiny Caribbean territory for the release of the Americans is well within the possibility of the Biden administration’s power.
Virginia’s Democrat Senators didn’t appear to be interested in helping Wenrich.
Senator Tim Kaine’s (D-VA) office claimed he was “motoring the situation.”
The only member of the government who has shown interest in securing Wenrich’s release is House Freedom Caucus Chair Bob Good (R-VA).
“I will do everything I can to work toward Tyler’s release and return home,” Good said on X.
Americans traveling to Turks and Caicos are having the hammer dropped on them – after the failure of the TSA – and no one in the federal government cares.
