Have you ever wondered what it will take to destroy anything at the range?
Well, come to find out, size does matter.
And few things on God’s green earth can survive one round from this beast.
Size does matter
No matter how strong a man is, there are always a few things that will break a tough guy.
And one of those traumatizing events is one that many of us have lived through.
We go out with the boys to mingle somewhere.
In a matter of no time, you are talking to a woman about life, and she wants to go back and see your homestead.
On the way to your spread, you start sweating bullets because you know the question will come up sooner or later of what you’re packing.
And when you get back to your place, she inherently wants to see what you are concealed carrying.
Afraid of frightening her, you whip out something of a smaller caliber, like the.22LR or maybe even the.380 ACP.
She looks at you, smirks, and says something like, ‘size doesn’t matter.’
And there is nothing wrong with whipping out your .380 ACP because not all of us are enough of a man to carry something on the larger side of the spectrum like a .44 Magnum.
But, she is lying to you when she says, ‘size doesn’t matter.’
A .22LR might get the job done, but if you want to leave a bigger impact, you need to increase your caliber.
And if you were ever curious as to what happens when one of the largest calibers ever produced shows up at the range, just look and see what happens when the .950 JDJ (24.1×70mm) – aka the “Fat Mac” – takes a shot down range.
Not much is bigger than the .950 JDJ Fat Mac
The .950 JDJ is a wooly mammoth of a round that is 70 millimeters in length and weighs over a half a pound.
Can’t get much bigger than that.
Itself, a firearm chambered for it is over 50 pounds in weight and, when fired, produces over 300 pounds of recoil.
That is over three times the recoil of a .50 cal. shooting down range.
So it’s needless to say that when the Fat Mac gets whipped out at the range, people stop and are amazed at the size of both the rifle and the round.
Only a few Fat Mac’s have ever been produced but, thankfully for us, the YouTube channel, Kentucky Ballistics was able to shoot the massive rifle in the name of science.
In the video, you can see how powerful the recoil is from firing a .950 JDJ round.
And it’s not just all show, as the .950 JDJ also destroys whatever it hits down range.
The round just cuts through railroad ties like a knife through hot butter.
And when you fire the massive round at a line of water jugs stacked on a table, even the table gets torn into pieces from the energy of the round making contact.
