Driving for a ride-share company is supposed to be a quick and easy way to make some extra cash.
But one California man ended up in one of the most terrifying situations of his life while on the clock.
And an Uber driver had to make a tough decision when he saw this scary attack by a naked thug.
California Uber driver sees a naked man attacking a woman
Uber drivers usually see wild and crazy antics when they’re picking up passengers late on Friday and Saturday nights.
A man driving for them in Orange County, California, found himself in the middle of one of the craziest situations of his life on a Sunday evening.
An Uber driver was dropping off a passenger in Stanton, California, shortly before 8:00 PM on a Sunday when he saw the unthinkable.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said the driver saw a completely naked man who was viciously assaulting a 60-year-old woman.
A man named Luis told KABC that he was in his daughter’s bedroom where he watched the attack unfold.
“I saw the man beating on the woman, like, he’s like on top of her, beating on the woman,” Luis said. “So I yelled out the window, I said, ‘Hey, get off her,’ ran out, and when I ran out, I saw him pounding on the car, but he was completely nude.”
Uber driver stops the attack by shooting the naked thug
The Uber driver yelled at the naked man to stop attacking the woman.
But that resulted in the crazed thug coming over to try and break into the Uber driver’s vehicle.
That’s when the driver used his concealed carry weapon and shot the naked man.
“Beating on the side of the car, like trying to get into the car, and the [rideshare driver] was clearly telling him like, ‘Get off my car,’ like using expletives, ‘You better get off my car,” Luis recalled. “You better get off my car,’ and that’s when we ran inside and we heard the gunshots.”
The naked man was taken to an area hospital for his gunshot wounds.
“The rideshare driver stayed at the scene and he was interviewed by sheriff’s investigators and later released at the scene,” Orange County Sheriff’s Department sergeant Matthew Parrish said. “The woman who was being assaulted was seen by the Orange County Fire Authority and released at the scene as well.”
Police said that the 20-year-old man will be charged when he’s released from the hospital.
They don’t suspect that his motive was sexual assault.
“We’re still looking into whether or not this man was under the influence of any kind of drugs or if he has any mental health issues or anything like that,” Parrish said. “That’s all part of the investigation and something that will come out later on down the road.”
Uber bans its drivers from carrying guns, which can result in their termination.
The ride-share company put out a statement saying they were looking into the incident.
“The reported details are frightening,” Uber said in a statement. “We’re continuing to look into this and are standing ready to assist law enforcement on their investigation.”
Stopping a dangerous criminal could cost the Uber driver his job with the company.
