Having to defend her family against an intruder was hard enough for a Texas mom.
She wasn’t prepared for the fallout from that horrible night.
And a Texas mom legally defended her family and you won’t believe what happened next.
Texas mother shoots teenager breaking into her home
Fort Worth, Texas, resident Aleah Wallace faced the unthinkable when someone tried to break into the room of her eight-year-old daughter at 3:00 am last December.
Her apartment had been the target of four attempted burglaries, so she bought a gun to defend herself.
Wallace was in the living room and got her gun ready to defend her daughter’s life.
“I went, and I stood in the hallway. And I could see him standing at the window, lifting it up. I just shot,” Wallace told Fox 4.
The intruder turned out to be a 14-year-old teenager who lived in her apartment complex.
“I have four daughters. It’s just me and my four daughters that stay there. I just was protecting my daughters,” Wallace said.
“I’m devastated that he was 14. I hate that. I literally do. And I’m so sorry. But at that point, I had to think about my babies. I didn’t know he was 14 when he was on the other side of that window. All I knew was that somebody could come in and hurt me or my kids. That’s it.”
The case was sent to a Tarrant County grand jury, which concluded that there wasn’t enough evidence to charge for any crime.
Wallace had to put her daughters in therapy because of the shooting.
“They go to counseling once a week, so it’s still a little tough for them, but other than that, they’re okay,” Wallace explained.
Texas mom’s troubles just beginning after justified shooting
Wallace, who lives in public housing, found out that weapons are prohibited there, and she was given 30 days to leave.
“The apartments called and told me that I was not supposed to have a gun at all, even though I kept calling them and telling them somebody was breaking in. They told me I could not have a gun, and I have 30 days to vacate,” Wallace explained.
State Representative Carrie Isaac (R-Wimberly) got involved with defending her pro bono after learning about her potential eviction.
“It made me very angry,” Isaac said. “No one should be denied their Second Amendment right just because they live in public housing. It’s unconstitutional.”
Isaac told the management of the apartment complex that they were subverting the Second Amendment rights of residents.
“They are creating an unsafe environment by taking away the Second Amendment right of law-abiding citizens,” Isaac stated.
“And I want her to know that we are fighting for her, pulling for her. And we’ll do everything we can to make sure that she has a roof over her head and that they are not throwing her out on the street.”
The pressure from the lawmaker worked, and the apartment complex backed off the eviction.
“I want to say thank you so much, we are eternally grateful,” Wallace said.
Aleah Wallace went to hell and back after exercising her constitutional right to self-defense.
