You never know what you will see and experience in the great outdoors.
Here, humans live at the mercy of Mother Nature and all of the beasts that roam the forest.
And a man came face to face with this predator in now viral footage.
Unsuspecting hunter comes face to face with an anxious black bear
One of the most exciting aspects of hunting involves its unpredictable nature.
After all, many hunters walk significant distances to find their tree stand, where they sit isolated for hours.
All sorts of critters roam the woods, including predators who want nothing to do with people, who are constantly encroaching on their territory.
Last week, a Canadian hunting guide named Johnny Rivet shared his face to face encounter with a predator while sitting in the woods on a hunt. Rivet shared this terrifying experience on Instagram, where he goes by the username @johnnyrivet.
In the clip, which already has roughly 800,000 views, Rivet films a black bear staring at him before sniffing his bag. Rivet stays quiet as a mouse, and the bear continues to sniff all around Rivet and his hunting spot.
“Sow was checking us out since her 1 year old cub was up in our tree stand,” Rivet wrote, adding “These bears had probably never seen a human since we were out in the middle of nowhere.”
Right at the end of the video things go sideways in a hurry as the bear jumps at Rivet.

Fortunately, the beast only swiped a paw at Rivet and the man was able to scare the momma bear off.
Although his video makes it seem like black bears are relatively docile (until the end that is), outdoorsmen should always keep some distance from these predators if possible.
Black bears rarely attack humans; however, they will not think twice if they feel threatened.
This especially applies to momma bears, who will do anything to protect their cubs.
If you do happen to encounter a black bear, nature experts advise that you keep your distance, allowing the bear to get his sniffs in and move on.
However, if the bear gets curious and approaches you, the best bet is to make loud noises, while making yourself as big as possible.
More often than not, this will send a black bear running for its life.
After all, many of these wild animals are far more afraid of us than we are of them.
Brown bears, or grizzly bears, on the other hand require much more caution.
Although these bears will typically avoid humans if possible, brown bears are far larger and more aggressive than black bears.
Bear mace can give you an edge against these apex predators, if you happen to find yourself staring down a charging grizzly.
However, odds are, if a grizzly is charging your way it could be your last hunting trip.
Fear not, grizzly bears prefer sparsely populated areas such as the Alaskan bush, devoid of people and busy towns.
Johnny Rivet’s footage reveals that anything can happen in the wild
Nothing can beat the thrill of watching an animal in its natural environment.
This thrill brings millions of hunters out into the woods every year.
Unfortunately, hunting season does not begin for another couple of months in most parts of America.
That means now is the time to start studying for next season, and reassess what gear you might need to load up on before the going gets good.
After watching Johnny Rivet’s latest video, you’d probably agree that a can of bear mace might not hurt to have in your knapsack.
