The public health lobby is being mobilized again for the political benefit of the Left.
But once again, they don’t tell the truth about their motives.
And Biden’s Surgeon General was caught in one awful lie over this scary move against freedom.
The Surgeon General pushes a gun control agenda
President Joe Biden is running the most anti-gun White House in American history. But his gun control agenda has run into a roadblock in Congress and from the Supreme Court. His administration is getting creative with its attacks on the Second Amendment.
Surgeon General Vivek Murthy issued an advisory calling gun violence a public health crisis. He claimed that there is a “broad agreement” among the public that gun violence is a big problem in the country. And his solution to the problem is every agenda item on the anti-gunners wish list. Murthy called on Congress to pass bans on “assault weapons and large-capacity magazines for civilian use,” a safe storage law, universal background checks, restricting concealed and open carry, enacting red flag gun confiscation laws, and more. California has every one of these anti-gun laws and it led the nation in mass shootings.
“People want to be able to walk through their neighborhoods and be safe,” Murthy told The Associated Press. “America should be a place where all of us can go to school, go to work, go to the supermarket, go to our house of worship, without having to worry that that’s going to put our life at risk.”
The reason that so many neighborhoods aren’t safe is from soft-on-crime policies championed by Democrats like no cash bail and prosecutors installed by globalist billionaire George Soros who treat criminals with kid gloves. New Hampshire has some of the most pro-gun laws in the country and one of the lowest rates of crime in the country.
Surgeon General lied before Congress about his gun control agenda
Declaring gun violence as a public health emergency is a long-time goal of the anti-gun lobby. New Mexico’s Democrat Governor used one to illegally suspend concealed carry rights. That’s why U.S. Senator Mike Braun (R-IN) asked Murthy about it point blank during his confirmation hearing. Braun asked Murthy if he thought guns are a public health emergency.
“I think gun violence like any other form of violence is a concern to me as a doctor. I think the way to approach that issue should be driven by science. My focus is not on this issue,” Murthy said. “It will be on COVID, mental, and substance abuse disorders. That is where I’d put my attention if I’m confirmed.”
Murthy lied under oath during his confirmation because he was in a 50/50 situation and he couldn’t afford to lose the support of vulnerable Democrats in red states. The biggest public health crisis in the country is drug overdoses – primarily from fentanyl. But drawing attention to that puts the spotlight on the border crisis that his boss created.
Braun introduced a bill in 2023 to stop unelected public health bureaucrats like Murthy from weaponizing the public health system against the Second Amendment. The Protecting the Right to Keep and Bear Arms Act would prevent the President and the Secretary of Health and Human Services from using public health as cover for gun control.
“Many said that public health emergencies would not be abused to impose gun control, but after we saw the vast expansion of executive power during COVID and the New Mexico Governor use a public health emergency to effectively suspend the 2nd Amendment in her state, no one can doubt that this needs to be addressed,” Braun stated. “We need to set into law that no one can remove the right to defend ourselves and our families with the stroke of a pen.”
Murthy doesn’t have the power to unilaterally enact gun control. But public health is going to be a battleground in the fight over Second Amendment rights.
