Students are put in danger in schools because of the failed policies of the Left.
They rely on a false narrative to keep the status quo going.
And a private school founder dismantled this awful argument against protecting students.
Private school founder takes apart arguments against arming teachers
Most schools are gun-free zones, which makes them an easy target for criminals. The simplest and most effective solution to making schools more secure would be to allow teachers to be armed.
Instead, the anti-gun lobby pushes expensive and ineffective solutions to secure schools that cause students to have to undergo active shooter drills and live in a state of fear.
Eddie and Claire Speir retired to Florida in 2013 from Colorado after they sold their software company. The couple felt a calling from God and started the Inspiration Academy with no educational training and one paid employee. Now the school has grown to over 200 students with dozens of staff members. The Speirs didn’t give it a second thought about making sure their school’s teachers were armed.
“It was because of Columbine. We were in a spiritual war – we still are – and some people were crazy. We knew it was our duty to protect our students. Columbine changed a lot of things for educators,” Eddie told the Second Amendment Foundation.
More states around the country have legalized arming teachers, which is prompting pushback from the anti-gun lobby.
The gun grabbers at Everytown for Gun Safety put out a report with the arguments against arming teachers.
Eddie Speir has run a school with armed teachers without incident and tore apart the gun grabber’s bogus claims.
Gun grabbers use distortions to disarm teachers
Everytown claims that students would be able to get ahold of teachers’ guns but Speir said that’s never happened.
The group also claimed the risk of shooting would increase with guns in schools.
“This argument is intellectually lazy, ignores all empirical evidence, and just plays off people’s
emotions and fears,” Speir explained. “It doesn’t make any sense. Evidence has shown that cities that have strict gun laws have the most crime.”
Criminals avoid places they know have armed citizens.
“What causes shootings is weakness,” Speir continued. “Reagan said we need to project strength. Our school is not a soft target, and we want everyone to know that. It’s criminals who cause shootings, not law-abiding citizens. People should be armed and equipped to fight against criminals.”
Everytown claims that an armed teacher would be more likely to shoot a student or staff member than the shooter.
“I absolutely reject that. Anyone with any kind of awareness would want weapons in the hands
of good people during a difficult situation,” Speir said. “When weak-minded people create in the
public’s mind this notion – this Hollywood notion of an incompetent person with a gun – they
endanger everyone. Even if it is an extremely scary and dangerous situation, good people will
react appropriately, not firing indiscriminately as in some kind of Hollywood movie.”
Schools are soft targets without armed teachers, which gives the green light to criminals to do their worst.
Anti-gunners would rather play politics than keep students safe.
